Current fringe-gambling definitions and exceptions
Section 76-9-1402 prohibits participation in gambling, fringe gambling or online gambling. The definitions address chance-based value wagering even with preview or pre-reveal features. Revealing an outcome first cannot simply be assumed to remove a product from the statutory question.
The ancillary-promotion definition imposes a limited duration, a genuine ordinary good or service and no purchase advantage. It also excludes simulated casino environments and specified gambling-like displays. Those requirements are more specific than a general promise that no purchase is necessary.

An ancillary promotion must be genuinely ancillary
A continuing casino-style website does not establish the exception by adding a reference to another product. Read the ordinary good or service, duration, purchaser treatment and excluded display types together. One favorable term cannot establish the complete category.
This page retains the current source citations without a Utah signup ranking. An older article using pre-renumbering sections needs checking before reuse, and a product’s preview feature or social branding cannot replace the current text. The dated baseline does not claim an individual approval for any operator.
Utah questions
Which numbering should readers use?
The provisions moved in 2025 to Title 76, Chapter 9, Part 14. The cited definitions are effective May 6, 2026. Both the current numbering and version date help distinguish this record from older summaries.
Is a no-purchase sentence enough for the exception?
The ancillary definition has additional conditions and express exclusions, including simulated casino environments. A free route alone cannot show that a perpetual commercial game fits those requirements.
